One of the pioneering bands in the heavy metal scene was Slayer, formed in 1981 in Huntington Park, California by singer and bass guitar player Tom Araya along with the two guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. Known for their heavy and aggressive style of playing, Slayer are considered one of the big four heavy metal bands that are the most significant in the heavy metal genre, alongside the bands Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Their lineup has changed a number of times over the years and currently consists of Kerry King, Tom Araya, Paul Bospath and Gary Holt.
In 2016 Slayer decided that they would be writing their final album and performing a world wide farewell tour and that they would not be performing together again. Although there does always remain the possibility of reunion concerts further down the road, most of the band members are looking to enjoy their maturer years perhaps avoiding a large amount of the nose that they have helped to create over the years.
One of their most successful fan favorite albums is their 1986 album “Reign in Blood”, which particularly showcases the bands heavy style and controversial lyrics.
